The 1984 Austrian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Österreichring on August 19, 1984. It was the twelfth round of the 1984 Formula One season and the 400th World Championship Grand Prix held since the championship began in 1950.

Notes[edit]

• First race: Gerhard Berger
• For the first time in Formula One history none of the cars starting on the grid had a naturally aspirated engine.
• The race was restarted because of an improper starting procedure, due to the lights (according to Niki Lauda) going red, then green, then yellow and back to red again.
• During the first race, Elio de Angelis stalled on the grid and blocked a number of cars including Patrick Tambay, who came to a dead stop behind De Angelis and stalled his Renault. This fracas allowed Ayrton Senna to come up from 10th to 4th.
• This was the only time that Niki Lauda has won his home Grand Prix. His previous best was 2nd in 1977.
