• Ayrton Senna crashed at the corner after Signes after slipping on some oil spilled on to the track from Andrea de Cesaris's Minardi. Senna had crashed at Signes the previous year, in similar circumstances.
• It was Christian Danner's first race to be completed in his 10th Grand Prix.
