The band has competed in a number of national competitions, and most recently won the gold award at the finals of the National Concert Band Festival for the second time.
Each year the band travels abroad, with previous tours to the Czech Republic, Croatia and Germany. In 2008 they visited Romania where they performed to raise money for Hospices of Hope, appearing on national television on two occasions. Last summer (2010), the band travelled to China where they performed at the Shanghai Expo 2010. This year's tour was to Kraków, Poland, playing at Jazz Clubs in the city centre and the famous Alchemia.
In recent years they have received guidance from top professionals in the business including Mark Armstrong, Pete Long,[1] Ralph Salmins, Scott Stroman and Clark Tracey.
The band is organized and run by a student committee elected by the band every academic year.
