IC Big Band (also known as Imperial College Big Band) is an award-winning London-based big band which regularly performs in and around the capital. The band is made up of university students at Imperial College London, and has gained an excellent reputation over the last few years.
The band is experienced in playing at a variety of events including weddings, parties, corporate events, balls, and dinners. They also regularly feature in charity concerts and perform at student venues across the country. The styles they play cover the range of big band jazz including swing, Latin, funk and contemporary.
The band has competed in a number of national competitions, and most recently won the gold award at the finals of the National Concert Band Festival for the second time.
Each year the band travels abroad, with previous tours to the Czech Republic, Croatia and Germany. In 2008 they visited Romania where they performed to raise money for Hospices of Hope, appearing on national television on two occasions. Last summer (2010), the band travelled to China where they performed at the Shanghai Expo 2010. This year's tour was to Kraków, Poland, playing at Jazz Clubs in the city centre and the famous Alchemia.
The band is organized and run by a student committee elected by the band every academic year.
