Keller Williams Realty is a real estate franchise organization in the United States and Canada. It has its headquarters in Austin, Texas. Gary W. Keller and Joe Williams co-founded Keller Williams Realty in 1983.[1][2] The company began franchising in 1991 and expanded to Canada in 1998, with sales and commissions growth topping 700 percent since 1995.[3] Keller Williams has grown from a single office in Austin to the largest real estate company in the United States and Canada, with over 80,000 agents.[1][4]
Keller Williams Realty has seen growth in number of agents, market centers, closed units and closed gross commission income, under Keller's direction.[2] In 2009, Keller Williams market centers generated combined profit of $80.1 million, in a year when almost every major franchise lost money.[5] From 2008 to 2009, the company's agent count increased from 74,200 to 76,700.[5]

In 2010, Keller Williams Realty CEO Mark Willis announced the expansion of Keller Williams Realty beyond North America and in early 2012, the company awarded its first overseas franchise in Vietnam, led by KW Vietnam President Paul Mason.[6] In September 2012, the real estate company announced its franchise opportunities now include Indonesia and the Southern Africa region, which includes: South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, and Mozambique. The new team in the Southern Africa region will be led by Johan Gouws, Niel Cronje, Tertius Zitzke, and Stefan Swanepoel. In Indonesia, Tony Eddy will lead.[7][8][9]
Negotiations with potential franchisees in several other countries continue as Keller Williams Realty seeks to add 50,000 associates worldwide over the next 10 years.[8][7]
On February 17, 2013 Keller Williams Worldwide President Chris Heller was announced that the company would expand into 4 new countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Turkey.[10]
In 2007, Keller Williams Realty launched Luxury Homes by Keller Williams, a members-only program that gives eligible associates a designation as experts in serving luxury home buyers and sellers. The training component of the program is provided by The Institute for Luxury Home Marketing.[11][12][13]
In 2008, Keller Williams Realty introduced KW Commercial, a division of the company that provides commercial real estate associates with specialized technology, marketing tools, and resources.[14][15] Two key differences between KW Commercial and the industry's leading brokerages, are commission splits in the agents' favor, allowing them to retain at least 60 percent more of their commissions based on $300,000 gross income, as well as profit-sharing and retirement programs. Commercial agents also get ownership opportunities similar to those offered to Keller Williams residential agents.[16]
KW Commercial is headed by commercial real estate veteran, Buddy Norman, in Austin, Texas and has grown to over 1,000 brokers nationally.[17]

KW Cares is a 501(c)(3) public charity created to support Keller Williams Realty associates and their families with hardship as a result of a sudden emergency. Hardship is defined as a difficult circumstance that a person or family cannot handle without outside help.[20][21][22][23]
In 2012, KW Cares awarded $2.7 million in grants to associates and their families in need.[10]
RED Day (Renew, Energize and Donate) is an initiative dedicated to celebrating Keller Williams Realtyís year-round commitment to improving their local communities. Each year, on the second Thursday in May, tens of thousands of associates from across the United States and Canada participate in a wide range of projects, devoting their time to renewing and energizing aspects of the neighborhoods in which they serve. RED Day initiatives run the gamut: From rebuilding homes, refurbishing local parks, giving to local food shelters, hosting blood drives, beautifying beaches and so much more. Projects are chosen by each individual market center based on a need they see within its community.
