Koduvayur is a small town in Palakkad district of Kerala state, south India. It is roughly around 10 km south of Palakkad town. It comes under Chittur Taluk of Palakkad district. About a quarter of the local population depends upon Koduvayur for their day-to-day needs like vegetables & other groceries, cloth and meat products as this place acts as a hub for merchandise coming from Coimbatore and Pollachi in Tamil Nadu. Most of the people there talk in Malayalam. Some also have Tamil as their mother tongue. But almost all of them can understand Tamil and may also be able to answer any queries made in Tamil. All nearby towns like Alathur, Nemmara, Palakkad, Chittoor, Trichur, Kollangode and Pollachi are easily accessible and well connected. Frequent buses are available to and from these places to Koduvayur Market. KSRTC operates long route buses to Trivandrum, Kochi and Coimbatore through here. Koduvayur is a business center for the south-west region of Palakkad district.

Road : You can reach Koduvayur from Palakkad town which is 11 km away. From NH-47, you may approach Koduvayur from Alathur (17 km away) or Kuzhalmannam (8 km away)
Rail : Palakkad Junction (Palghat - Station Code : PGT) is the nearest Railway station which is about 15 km distant from Koduvayur. Palakkad Junction is a vital point under Southern Railway which acts as a major source of economy to Indian Railways.
Air : Nedumbassery (Cochin) International Airport is the nearest Air Terminal which is about 100 km away. Coimbatore in Tamilnadu is also a close air port
Important festivals of Koduvayur [edit]
There is a temple in the village, dedicated to Kashi viswanatha Swamy (called Vishwanatha temple) near the Government High School Koduvayur. In the month of December the "Car Festival" (called "theru" in malyalam) is celebrated in Koduvayur town. It falls on the day of Tiruvathira star in the Dhanur Masam (falling between 15 December and 14 January). Three cars each dedicated to Lord Vinayaka, Lord Viswanatha and Lord Subrahmanya will go around the village during the festival. It is celebrated for two days. It is a trend here that the devotees along with the elephant pull these cars around the village. Thousands of people from nearby villages and the natives of Koduvayur from different parts of the globe along with their family and friends gather here for the car festival. Finally the festival ends up with 'Theppa Theru' where a small chariot is made out of wood and the deity is taken across the pond, also known as Kulam.
Another festival is Ethanur kummatti which is celebrated at Ethanur which is a village close to Koduvayur.
"Palli Theru" [edit]
This business town has a small community of Catholics and a Church, built in traditional Kerala Architecture. The Church is named after the Apostle of Jesus Christ, St Thomas, who came to Kerala in 52 AD. The Church keeps the holy relic of St Thomas, which is a rare privilege. Christians celebrate Puthujayar or Pallitheru on the Sunday after Easter. It is on this day that St Thomas proclaimed the Lordship of Jesus Christ. A small car "theru" bearing the image of St Thomas is taken through the main roads of Koduvayur. July 3rd, the day of St Thomas'martyrdom is celebrated. There will be "Oottu" or meals also known as "Oottuthirunal".
