Kupwara district has 3 tehsils: Handwara, Karnah and Kupwara.
This district consists of 11 blocks: Sogam, Tangdar, Teetwal, Ramhal, Kupwara, Rajwal, Kralpora, Langate, Wavoora, Trehgam and Kalaroo.[1] Each block consists of a number of panchayats.
Economy [edit]
In 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Kupwara one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640).[2] It is one of the three districts in Jammu and Kashmir currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF).[2]
Demographics [edit]
According to the 2011 census Kupwara district has a population of 875,564,[3] roughly equal to the nation of Fiji[4] or the US state of Delaware.[5] This gives it a ranking of 470th in India (out of a total of 640).[3] The district has a population density of 368 inhabitants per square kilometre (950 /sq mi) .[3] Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 34.62%.[3] Kupwara has a sex ratio of 843 females for every 1000 males,[3] and a literacy rate of 66.92%.[3]
The People are mostly Kashmiri, and Gujjar along the border with Azad Kashmir.

Kupwara District has 5 assembly constituencies: Karnah, Kupwara, Lolab, Handwara and Langate.[6]
