Mahamaya Technical University (MTU), was formed on 1 May 2010 on the bifurcation of the erstwhile Uttar Pradesh Technical University.[3] The university affiliates the colleges lying in the 21 districts of the Meerut, Saharanpur, Agra, Aligarh and Moradabad divisions of Uttar Pradesh, beginning from the academic year 2010-11.[3]
Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Engineering College of Information Technology, Bijnore has been established as the constituent college of the university. It is also the only government-owned engineering college affiliated to the university.[4]
The university retains the Noida center and regional office of the former UPTU, located at C-22, Sector-62, Noida.
As of July 2010[update], the university remains only on paper and functions are still being carried out by GBTU.[5]
But in 2013 as Samajwadi Party came into power this university was again formed by combining Gautam Buddha Technical University and Mahamaya Technical University on January 5, 2013.[6]
