Murk is a 2005 Danish dark and psychological thriller in a class of nerve-wracking, the film was directed by Jannik Johansen who writes also the screenplay alongside with Anders Thomas Jensen and in the thriller stars Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Nicolas Bro.
The God-forsaken village Mørke in the Danish province can be found on any map, the Journalist Jacob follows his ex-brother-in anchor there, after his wheelchair-using sister Julie has yet been put on the wedding night life. Jacob and his family are stunned, no one can understand her suicide. When he anchors his brother-in Mørke finding out this is again just before the marriage and again the woman sits in a wheelchair. Can it still be a coincidence, or is it the pattern of a mad serial killer who marries women with disabilities and murdered on their wedding night? Jacob finds no peace, with all his strength, he looks for the causes of the death of his sister and risks his own life.
The film premiered on 19 August 2005 at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, before on 23 August 2005 was part of the Copenhagen International Film Festival and the Danish cinema release was on 7 October 2005.
"Mørke" in Danish means "darkness" and "death of marriage".
The both American directors Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel directed the US Remake of the film entitled Merciless, the Gold Circle Films project was rewritten in late December 2009 from Ed Dougherty. It is planned with a release in 2011.
