National Central University (NCU, Chinese: 國立中央大學, Kuo-Li Chung-yang Ta-hsüeh, or 中大, Chung-ta) was founded in 1915. It has its roots from 258 CE, Nanjing, China. After NCU in Nanjing was renamed Nanjing University in 1949, NCU was re-established in Taiwan in 1962. The school was initially located in Miaoli, but was relocated to Jhongli in 1968, and developed into a comprehensive university. It has now become Taiwan's leading school in the fields of drama, film studies, cultural studies, sex and gender studies, Hakka studies, geophysics, space science, remote sensing, astronomy, optoelectronics, nano scitech, and business management. In 2001, NCU was selected by Ministry of Education as one of the eleven research-oriented universities in Taiwan.
NCU now has seven colleges in different areas, including College of Liberal Arts, College of Science, College of Engineering, College of Management, College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, College of Earth Sciences, and College of Hakka Studies.

The university can trace back its roots from 258 CE, Nanjing,[1] and in modern time founded in 1915 in Nanjing, the new capital city of the early government of the Republic of China, National Central University moved to Chungking in 1937 when Sino-Japanese War broke out and returned to Nanjing in 1946. After the ROC lost control of the Chinese Mainland in 1949, in Nanjing it was renamed as Nanjing University (南京大學) by CCP. National Central University was reinstated in Taiwan in 1962, first as the National Central University Graduate Institute of Geophysics. In 1968, NCU moved to its current location in the Shuanglianpo (雙連坡) district of Jhongli City (中壢市), Taoyuan County (桃園縣), and was renamed the National Central University College of Science. In 1979, it was officially re-established under its current name. More recently, NCU and a few other highly regarded universities established the University System of Taiwan cooperative partnership (2002). The current president is Dr Lou-Chuang Lee.
The university's Taoyuan County campus is situated in the northern part of the island, about 45 minutes from Taipei. The large, green hilltop campus, is some distance away from the busy Jhongli City. NCU is only half an hour away from the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, which makes it very convenient for international travel.
NCU consists of seven colleges:
Each college houses numerous research centers, such as the Center for Space & Remote Sensing Research, Hazard Mitigation & Prevention, Taiwan Economic Development, Biotechnology & Biomedical Engineering, and several boutique-style humanities centers.
In total, the 7 colleges contain 19 undergraduate departments, 48 graduate institutes, and 38 research centers.
