Patrick Chan Siu-oi (traditional Chinese: 陳兆愷; simplified Chinese: 陈兆恺; pinyin: Chén Zhaòkaǐ) is a judge in Hong Kong. He is currently one of the three Permanent Judges of the Court of Final Appeal.[1]

Early life and education [edit]

Born in Hong Kong, Patrick Chan attended Wah Yan College, Hong Kong, a prominent Jesuit high school in Hong Kong. He received his Bachelor of Laws ("LLB") degree at the University of Hong Kong in 1974.

Judicial career [edit]

Between 1987 and 1991, he served as judge in District Courts. In 1991, he was appointed Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court . In 1992, he began serving as a Judge in the Court of First Instance of the High Court of Hong Kong. In 1997, Chan was appointed Chief Judge of the High Court of Hong Kong and became the first local graduate to serve in that position.[2] In 2000, he was appointed a Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal.
