Pixable is a mobile photo discovery application and company headquartered in New York City. The application aggregates and ranks photos across different online photo repositories allowing users to search, browse, edit, and access all the photos connected to them in one location.
Pixable was founded in March 2009 by MIT graduates and entrepreneurs Andres Blank, Inaki Berenguer, and Alberto Sheinfeld in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The company started in the dorm rooms of MIT before moving its headquarters to New York City. In November 2009, an additional office was opened in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The company's free application offers a unique, personalized browsing experience by aggregating photos from different social networks and content sites and then smartly sorting them into feeds like “Best Photos of the Day”, "New Photos of Celebrities", or "New Profile Photos" in order of their relevance to the user. Pixable also doubles as a notification service allowing users to follow friends’ photo activity and be notified of newly tagged or uploaded photos.
On September 18, 2012, Pixable was acquired for $26.5 million by SingTel as a part of their Digital L!fe Group, which focuses on fostering new digital growth engines to bring the latest digital technologies to their customers and compete in new markets and adjacent industries.
Pixable’s primary product is a photo and video discovery and viewing application available on the web, Android, Feature Phones, iPhone, and iPad. The application aggregates the photos available to each user on their Facebook network, Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, and content sites and organizes them into feeds like “Photos you liked”, “Best of the Day”, "Photos of Celebrities", "Today in the News", or "New Shared Videos." Also available is a video category which collects YouTube, Vimeo, and native Facebook videos shared on a users network, and ranks and organizes these into feeds as well On Twitter, the application will update and display the photo timeline of a user's Twitter stream, not just of an individual.
Pixable's ranking technology prioritizes photos that are the most interesting to a specific user based on factors such as the number of likes and comments, amount of interaction with the friends associated with the photo, and the kind of photos the user has liked in the past.
Pixable’s photo discovery includes a feature through which users can subscribe to updates of selected friends’ Facebook photo activity. This feature allows them to ‘follow’ them through updates The ability to see these updates of friends' Facebook photo activity is possible through the "follow" feature or through email and push notifications.
As of July 2011, Pixable introduced a feature allowing users to view a timeline of all of the photos they have liked or commented on in the application.
