Toffen has an area of 4.9 km2 (1.9 sq mi). Of this area, 66.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 19.8% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 13.6% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.4%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).

Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (95.0%), with French being second most common ( 1.3%) and Albanian being third ( 0.8%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 23.7% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 64.1% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 12.2%. In Toffen about 79.7% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
