The Corolla Verso (known as the Corolla Spacio in Japan) was a 5-door estate Compact MPV first released by Toyota in 1997 until production of the third generation ceased in 2009 and production of its replacement, the Toyota Verso, began. Although the design of the car is based on the Verso's namesake, the Corolla, the Verso does not share a platform with the Corolla, instead being built on a separate unique platform. The current rivals of the Corolla Verso are the Opel Zafira and the Volkswagen Touran, both being released around the time of the third generation Corolla Verso.[1]
First generation (1997-2001) [edit]
The first generation, introduced in 1997, was introduced as a two-box minivan which was technically similar to the Avensis. Its body panels were stamped by long-time Toyota supplier Kanto Autoworks.
Second generation (2001-2006) [edit]
The second generation was unveiled in 2001.

Third generation (2004-2009) [edit]
Being internally coded as the AR10 platform (AUR10 with AD engine, ZNR10 with 3ZZ engine, ZNR10 with 1ZZ engine), the third generation of the Corolla Verso was one of the first Toyota vehicles to be designed and built outside Japan, being built in Adapazarı, Turkey, and designed at Toyota's European design centre in the south of France.[4] This generation was primarily aimed at the European market where it became one of the best selling Compact MPV's.[5] The third generation was offered with three choices of engines; a 1.6 and a 1.8 litre petrol, or a 2.0 litre diesel.[6] The European specification Corolla Verso was available in Europe, Morocco, Kenya and South Africa.
