WBGZ (1570 AM, "The Big Z") is a radio station broadcasting a News Talk Information format. Licensed to Alton, Illinois, United States, the station serves the northern St. Louis and Metro-East areas. The station is currently owned by Metroplex Communications, Inc. and features programing from Salem Communications.[1]
The station's slogan is "Radio for the River Bend." It broadcasts local news, sports, and talk, primarily for the greater Alton area. Broadcasting for more than 50 years, the station was originally known as WOKZ, until it was changed to its current call letters in 1984. It has a 24 hour talk format with two daily talk shows, a morning and afternoon drive show, local weekend programming, including a popular outdoors show, and other various programs. The signal can be easily heard in northern St. Louis County in Missouri, as well as in portions of southwestern Illinois.
